What if each citizen is awarded a quota, manifested in impact points, that can be used when purchasing clothes?
Annie Lovisa Hedlun imagines future clothing retail.
The result of this project is a dystopian shopping website with a digital point system. This concept could be explained as a transition to a stricter future, but it could also be a necessity that has to happen when overconsumption has gone too far. Fabrics are divided into groups (different points) based on climate impact. With 100 points/year given to everyone, it would not be possible to exceed the limit. The provotype has the goal of communicating that we don’t have unlimited number of resources, and that the limited use of 100 points could symbolize this in a human comprehensible way. This could be compared to rationing of food, often initiated by governments in emergencies like wars. High demand products were then only possible to purchase if you had points.

Ultimately, the provotype ask: “What if governments take control of resources use and production? What if consumer goods are rationed?”
