The Futures We Imagine exhibition moves to Nitja Center for Contemporain Art in Lillestrøm – opening Saturday 18th January 2025 at 13:00!
Welcome to a pop-up exhibition featuring works from OsloMet students, alumni, and staff connected to the IMAGINE project, as well as project partners.
Last year, Nitja showed the exam works of the students. This time installations, videos and interactive works summarising the project will be on display.
Display period: 18th January – 2nd February 2025.
What do you imagine when you think about the future? Maybe flying cars, food on tubes or high-tech clothing?
The research project IMAGINE has examined exactly those kinds of images – our imaginaries of the future. What do we dream of, hope for and believe about the future, and how can we make it a reality?
IMAGINE has examined what we think of when we talk of a sustainable future, and how the current and past ways of living shape these thoughts. Some of these imaginaries become strong cultural narratives that influence our actions, while others are more overlooked and dissappear without having had much impact.
To understand in which direction society is moving, we need knowledge of which future imaginaries dominate the present. Just as the imaginaries of the past have affected the present, the imaginaries of the present will shape the technological, cultural and social development of tomorrow.
Who decides which imaginaries that dominate and why?
